IMPLEMENTATION OF FIBONACCI SERIES AND GOLDEN RATIO INTO DESIGNING

Executive summary

It is believed that creativity and mathematics lies in two different polls. We think the two cannot be clubbed together.But reality says it is not like that.The nature itself act as proof for that.  The study proved that the whole creativity of the existence ie the universe is based on a ratio called Golden Ratio and which is 1.618. The foundation of the universe is based on this basic unit. All the creatures which is movable and immovable are based on this proportion or very close to this. Even though it sounds little unnatural, behind this immense beautiful creation the basic proposition is the golden ratio.

If the whole existence used this Golden ratio, why don’t us ? Golden ratio comes from the Fibonacci series. If we divide any two successive Fibonacci numbers we will get 1.618 or number very close to that.  If the objects or anything visual comprise of this basic proportion or golden ratio or combination of Fibonacci numbers, it will be attractive to eyes. This what happens in the universe. This attraction happens either knowingly or unknowingly. Our eyes will tend to attract to the patterns which is based on this proportion.

So what if, if we implement this Golden ratio concept or Fibonacci series to our designs. It will get an attention naturally. It will add value to our designs. This is not a proposed theory, actually some of the giants in the industry had entered into this. The famous apple logo is derived on this basis. And most of their subsidiary company designs are also based on this. Pepsi is another major company who derived their logo based on this concept.

Golden ratio and Fibonacci sequence opens wide opportunities to designing field. It will help to create designs that will grab the attention of the mass. This benefit extends to Marketing side also because the communication becomes more powerful and attractive. The ideas which has priority can be represented through this. Designs which has mathematical and statistical support will be more worthy. It is another aspect of this concept.

Fibonacci Numbers : The Fibonacci sequence consist of the numbers,

0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233, 377, 610, 987, 1597, 2584, 4181, 6765, 10946, 17711, 28657, 46368, 75025, 121393, 196418, 317811, …

Here the sequence starts with 0,and 1. There is a way of starting from 1 also.  here each number in this sequence is formed by adding  the numbers just before that. For example Here the number 5 is formed by adding the numbers 2 and 3. Therefore we could form an equation for this. If the nth term is xn then,

xn = xn-1 + xn+ 1

Golden Ratio

The golden ratio, also known as the divine proportion is a value of approximately 1.618033987. If the ratio of the sum of the quantities to the larger quantity is equal to the ratio of the larger quantity to the smaller one, then the quantities are said to have a golden ratio. If a is larger quantity and b is smaller one. Then

Golden Rectangle : 

If a rectangle whose side lengths are in the golden ratio which is approximately 1.618.Then it is said to be a golden rectangle. Where the the golden ratio will be applicable.

Logo designing Using Fibonacci series and Golden Ratio:

Fibonacci series and golden ratio can be implemented in ui/ux and other graphical designing. It gives designs which will naturally grab the attention of the customers. We Technomobianz gives important to designs which has mathematical or statistical support. Here we are using our own company logo to illustrate the practical application of Fibonacci series and golden ratio in designing.

Here totally 11 rectangles, 7 circles, 2 half circles, 12 triangle were used to form final Technomobs logo. Two circles of diameter 8 each used form the two upper and lower end curves. 2 half circles were used to form the curve part of the shape which lies in the upper middle region. The rest of that shape is formed by a rectangle. Technomobs logo is one which similar to a mobile phone. The arrows which pointing outward and downward on the sides are formed by  two triangles of diameter 6 each. Two long rectangles are placed vertically in order to cover the areas where the arrows passing and the cutting portion over there. Inside the logo there is 3 arrows. To form the vertical position of the long one  2 triangles were used likewise in other two arrows. To form the tip of the arrows 3 triangles having side measure of 6 used. There is a cutting portion in these three triangles. to form that  3 triangles with side of 6 unit were used. to form the regions formed by all arrows a large triangle is also used. Apart from this to cover the inside portion a large rectangle is used.
